Working with HTML Password Protector

AeroTags HTML Password Protector (AHPP) is a program to protect HTML and text files with a password. It can process a single file, or group of files at the same time if you are using the same password. AHPP is a wizard-style application, it helps you to lock the files step-by-step. There are four main steps:

  1. Select the file to protect
  2. Create the password
  3. Choose the logon page style
  4. Set IE funtions to disable (optional)

An overview of each step is shown below.

Step One - Select the files

Select the files to protect

Select the files to be protected. You can press Add and browse for the files if you don't know the path. Remove will delete the highlighted file and Remove All will delete all selected files.

Step Two - Choose a password

Choose a password for the resulting HTML page

Type in the password that will unlock the page. It can be letters or numbers, and it must be at least four characters. All passwords are case sensitive. You may choose to hide the password or have it displayed as you type it with the Hide typing option.

Generate a random password helps you to save a time and create and unique password, but it is better to pick your own password because it is easier to remember.

Step Three - Logon page style

Choose a style for logon page

Templates help you to customize the look of your logon page. You can use your webpage template to make the login page look the same as your web site.

Here you can choose the style from a list of included templates, or any you have created yourself and added to AHPP. Click the Preview button to see the selected style in your browser.

Edit HTML template... opens a new edit window so you can modify the source code of template, or you can create a new template and save it. Once saved, it will be automatically added to the list of available templates.

Step Four - Disable unwanted IE functions

Disable unwanted IE options

You can also disable some Internet Explorer functions.

Block right mouse button and context popup menu - check this box to disable the showing of popup menu when users make a right-mouse click in Internet Explorer.

Disable page printing - check this box to disable the page printing functions of Internet Explorer (File/Print).

Disable text selection on page - check this box to disable text selection on protected pages. Users then cannot select and copy the text and re-use your content.

Disable status bar text - check this box to hide text in the status bar. That will hide the locations of your images and other content from the user.

Finish - Get the fruits

Now HTML page is protected with your password

After you have completed these four steps, click the Finish button to lock the file(s). You will then see a list of locked files. Right click on a filename and you will be presented with editing options. You may preview or edit them, compare them with the original and restore the back to the unlocked version if you do not like the results.
